Welcome to the Gaited Baker! My name is Jamie and I loooooove to bake! On this blog, you'll find recipes that I've made along with pictures of the finished product. I love baking everything from the regular cookies and cake to breads and even dog treats (yes, you read that correctly)! You'll also find recipes for homemade ice cream and maybe even a few canning recipes. I do love to cook meals but baking is where my heart is. I love cooking so much that my husband has just about banned me from Williams-Sonoma due to the plethora of cooking gear we received for our wedding. My husband owns exactly two items in our kitchen - a French coffee press and milk frother. Everything else is mine and, yes, it all gets used. And we have a small apartment kitchen and every inch of space gets used. So really, we don't have a lot of room to put any more kitchen stuff (he'll be pleased to read that... haha).
So you're probably wondering, "Gaited Baker?" When I was in college, I was given the nickname, "Gaited Girl" because I was the only person there who rode gaited horses. Gaited horses are horses that are Saddlebreds and Morgans and the like (horses whose way of going is more than just the usual walk-trot-canter). I fell in love with the nickname and it's just stuck with me. My best friend even had a t-shirt made for me a couple of years ago that has "Gaited Girl" written on it :)
Now, I'm not one of those people who can just create a recipe right out of their heads, no. I'm a cookbook girl. So unless you see a recipe that I say came from my mother (and, yes, they'll be a few of those), I'll of course give credit to whatever cookbook or website it came from. I'm a King Arthur Flour junkie so you'll see quite a few recipes from them on here. I'll do my best to tell you what products I used in all my recipes so you can recreate my recipes. And if at all possible, I'll list the calorie content of my recipes as well.
So come along with me and let's get baking!
